FAQ

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the church to give you a picture of what The Journey looks like week to week and hopefully address issues important to you.

What kind of people make up The Journey?
What you’ll encounter when you attend The Journey is a diverse biblical community where people seek to know and love God, live in community with others and transform the world by serving our city as we think Christ would. Practically speaking, that means the some of us are just checking out Christianity for the first time, while others have been in church our whole lives. Journey members span all different ethnicities, ages and backgrounds. Everyone is welcome.

What if I’m not used to going to church?
You are the reason we started The Journey. We wants to be a comfortable place for those who are curious about God but have never felt comfortable in church. We want The Journey to be a place where you can learn, apply and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out yet. We like to say, “You don’t have to get clean before you come take a bath.”

What will the worship service be like?
The Journey has always been a place where we keep it very simple. It’s relaxed but focused. We don’t need to be flashy or put on big productions for people to meet God. We believe that Jesus is enough. No matter where or when you attend, we follow a basic pattern of meeting together that is traced back to the early Church. We teach from the Bible. We pray, we sing, we even have silence to help us reflect. And we respond by taking communion together. The goal through it all is to love God and know him better by making God’s unchanging truth accessible without watering it down.

What does the pastor talk about?
The sermons at The Journey are always practical in nature. We believe that God wants to be involved in our everyday lives, so we present the ageless truths of the Bible in a format that’s easy to understand, even if you’ve never been to church. Typically, we go through one book of the Bible in its entirety so we may fully understand God’s truth in context, though we also will mix in shorter series on specific topics as needed. Click here to visit the media library, which has a wealth of previous teaching in video and audio format.

What should I wear?
At The Journey, you’re welcome to wear whatever you’d like. There is no set dress code, although the attire is more on the casual side. Just be you.

How do I get to a service?
Depending on your location, you have a few choices about where to attend. Use the ‘campuses’ menu to select a campus.

What about my kids?
The Journey is a family-friendly environment. We believe that children are a blessing from God and should be taught about God in a fun learning environment. There is an active children’s ministry at each of our campuses. Use the campus dropdown at the top of this page, then navigate to Journey Kids.

Can I invite my friends?
Please do. We seek to be a welcoming environment for people who are curious about Christianity or who are seeking to belong to a community of believers.

How old is The Journey?
The Journey had its first corporate worship service on September 22, 2002 in a ballroom in the Clayton Community Center.

What kind of church is The Journey?
We are an interdenominational Christian church which means we have a ton of people from all different backgrounds.

Who leads The Journey?
The Journey is an elder-led, but member informed, church. There are elders who lead the entire church body, and who lead each campus. Meet the elders here.

How can I get involved?
That’s a really great question. Visit the Connection Point either on your campus’s home page, or at a weekend service. Use the dropdown at the top to visit a campus, then look to the left side of the page for more links and information to help you get plugged in.

These answers were okay, but how can I find out more about the church?
Please visit the contact page, and you can send a message to a real live person.
