Mercy Quartlery - April 26

Are you interested in exploring how the church is supposed to address issues like poverty, hunger, homelessness, and other pressing needs in our city?  Then bring your brain on Monday, April 26.

Who is Your Neighbor?

Luke 10:25-42 forces us to wrestle with the question, “Who is my neighbor?”

Mercy Quarterly

The Mercy Quarterly is a gathering of pastors, ministers, and other leaders getting together to share ideas; network together while asking the question, “what are some best practices for serving our cities?”

It will be a great opportunity to hear from other pastors, organization leaders, and churches regarding what they are doing to address poverty in our city, and how we can link together to impact our cities through the Gospel.

Mercy Quarterly

Date: January 25th
Time: 10:00 AM -1:00 PM (Lunch is provided)
Location: The Luminary
4900 Reber, St. Louis, MO 63139

This is a free event, though we ask you to please RSVP to Jan Dixon at jdixon@stlbaptist.org. Lunch will be provided.

Affordable Christmas

Mission: St. Louis is hosting the Affordable Christmas this Saturday, December 12. At this event, parents will have the opportunity to shop for toys at a minimal fee. This allows parents to provide gifts to their children, with dignity, when they may not otherwise be able to do so.

We’re serving about 50 more families this year than we have in the past, but we have even fewer presents than we did last year. This week we are still accepting gift and wrapping paper donations. You can drop off your donated items this week at the school building next to The Luminary on the Tower Grove Campus from 7:00 – 8:30 PM Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.

Affordable Christmas

Mission: St. Louis is hosting An Affordable Christmas on Saturday, December 12. At this event, parents will have the opportunity to shop for toys at a minimal fee. This allows parents to provide gifts to their children, with dignity, when they may not otherwise be able to do so. We are in need of new toy donations for children ages 3 to 16. A wish list of items is available at Connection Point. Items can be dropped off in the lobby after all services this weekend, and at the school on Tower Grove Camus Tuesday through Thursday from 7 – 8:30 PM.

A Night for the Town

What does a Pujols’ jersey, a lawyer, and a Coca-Cola table set have in common?

They are all auction items for Mission: St. Louis’ Night for the Town! Well, honestly, we’re not auctioning off a lawyer, but rather his expertise. These three things have other commonalities though. Each of them, along with nearly one hundred other unique items and experiences, have been donated by Journey members and the companies that employ them. Today, we’re asking if you might be able to help us too.

Mission: St.

Addressing Poverty. Restoring Dignity.

As a church, we exist to love God, connect people, and transform the world. In 2006, we began to ask what it really looks like to be a church for our city. What does it mean to enter the brokenness that surrounds poverty in St. Louis?

Cycles of poverty in our city run deep. We found there’s not a simple answer or a miracle program. So, we started small. We began volunteering in an elementary school. We spent an hour each week with the kids and helped teach them literacy skills. We learned a lot from these children.

Pep Rally!

This week we were contacted by SLPS asking us to welcome kids back to school for the new school year. We rounded up a group of 12-15 folks and headed up to the school bright and early last Thursday morning. The Principal spread us out between the front of the school, the cafeteria, and the side of the school where the buses unload kids. It was amazing to watch as kids showed up in their brand new uniforms and book bags. We got to watch as moms, dads, grandparents, and family paparazzi took pictures of their kids and grandkids as they walked up the steps and into the school.

Mission: St. Louis Offering This Weekend

As the Executive Director of Mission: St. Louis, I have experienced first hand the impact that we are making on the city. Throughout the past two years we have transformed lives in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood through presenting the Gospel and through holistically serving the needs of the community.
This weekend, December 13-14, we will be taking an offering to support Mission: St. Louis in fighting poverty in St. Louis.
