  • God, Make Me a Man

We live in a world full of males who have prolonged their adolescence.

They are neither boys nor men.  They live suspended between childhood and adulthood, between growing up and being a grown-up.

Let’s call this kind of male Ban, a hybrid of both man and boy.  This kind of male is everywhere, including the church and even vocational ministry.

Ban is a frightening reality in the church, but he is the best thing that ever happened to the video game and porn industries.

  • Tuesday Night is Family Night

Tuesday night is my favorite night of the week. It is a family gathering, though not the kind you may be thinking of.

  • On the Sabbath

Last week's staff meeting was particularly resourceful and has begun a dialogue I hope will continue in the Journey staff.  We talked about the commandment of the Sabbath.  In my leadership notes, I would put this under "leading self" or "personal discipline."  First, Pastor Joel noted that while we think about outer disciplines it’s extremely important to think about the inner disciplines.

  • Brown Bag Lunch Series - Empowering the Church on Mission

In last weekend's message on 1&2 Timothy and Titus, Pastor Darrin mentioned the contemporary reality of the Clergy-Laity divide and the implications of breaking through that barrier and releasing the Church to be on mission.

We have a strategic opportunity to continue that conversation with a leading author and renowned innovator in missional thinking on Tuesday, August 17 from Noon to 1 PM.

  • Acts 29 Midwest Quarterly

Author, strategic thinker and movement leader, Alan Hirsch will be speaking at our next Acts29 Midwest Region Quarterly, Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Alan brings a wealth of insight and experience as a global leader and movement shaper calling the Church back to its roots as a Community on Mission.

  • Making Memorization Possible

When I was a kid, I wanted to be just like Michael Jordan.  I didn’t need Nike to tell me to “be like Mike.”

  • Summer Brown Bag Lunch Series

Looking for a change of pace this summer.  Brown Bag it with us!

  • Tools for Memorizing Scripture

    Technology is a double-edged sword.

  • Men and Community

Are you in community?  Are you really known by those around you and do you really know them?  We all need to answer these questions, but I want to focus today on the guys.  We (men) excel at burying ourselves in work or tasks and making excuses for why we spend so little time investing in others and participating in authentic community as Christ-followers.

  • Why Memorize Scripture?

Memorizing Scripture isn't just for Sunday School. It's for life.
