The Journey is partnering with the Crudem Foundation to mobilize our medical professionals in assisting earthquake victims in Haiti.
Crudem is located in Northern Haiti about 80 miles north of Port-au-Prince. When it was established by the Sacred Heart of the Montreal Province in 1968, they had faith that a doctor to staff the new hospital would soon be provided. Around that same time, Dr. Ted Dubuque from St. Louis made a promise with God that if he recovered from his near fatal illness he would spend the rest of his life helping others . After making a full recovery, he kept his promise and traveled to Haiti where he performed 250 surgeries in his first 6 months at Crudem. Today Crudem is the largest private hospital in northern Haiti, serving 225,000 people.
Since the earthquake, Crudem has grown drastically in a matter of weeks. As their number of patients grows, they need the support of additional medically trained volunteers. The most urgent need is continued post operative care. Currently they are in need of these medical specialists:
If you are a skilled medical professional and available to travel to Haiti, please visit Crudem’s volunteer page, complete the nurse’s application, and submit it to nurses@crudem.org (please mention you are a part of The Journey in St. Louis). Please note that all persons are to use this form no matter your specialty. Also, take time to read the post quake guide for volunteers prior to applying. Volunteers are asked to stay a minimum of one week and be willing to do whatever is needed to assist the existing staff.
