Kids Matter to Jesus

When Jesus walked the earth, he was a busy man wrapped up in a very adult world. He was a revolutionary, challenging the social, cultural, and religious leaders of his day. He was an entrepreneur, building a new movement from the grass roots up. He was a counselor and physician, drawing broken, rejected, and lost people to himself and then leading them to wholeness.

No wonder, then, that his apprentices were protective of Jesus' time. When they saw parents starting to come to Jesus with their kids in tow, these faithful men rebuked the parents and sent them away because they were trying to protect Jesus from what the disciples saw as energy diverting distractions. "But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the Kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them" (Mark 10:14-16).

His followers got the point.

And so do we.
