  • Journey Kids Coordinator

Background

  • Education
I have a B.S. Bible/Educational Ministry and B.S. Bible/Family Ministry, both from Manhattan Christian College, in Manhattan, Kansas.
  • Family
I grew up in Kansas an only child. My parents still live in Topeka, but I consider St. Louis my home now since I’ve lived here for ten years! Most of my extended family lives in Kansas and Oklahoma, but I feel blessed to have an even larger extended family through The Journey.

Questions

  • What is following Jesus like these days?
I feel more and more challenged everyday to live in the tension of my utter sinfulness and God's amazing love for me. My time at The Journey has been an awakening for me of what the gospel really means. Over the last few years I have experienced incredible healing and learned what it means to live in true community. I am discovering how to truly live in the freedom of the Gospel.
  • How long have you been at The Journey?
Since October 2004. I first came to The Journey back in the Maplewood days, when we were meeting at Mapelwood High School. If you haven't heard of the Maplewood days, you should ask someone--great stories!! :)
  • What ministry are you involved in?
Journey Kids, of course. As some have said, "all things Journey Kids" should be my middle name. I assist Jeff Hutchings, Director of Family Ministries, in various ways. Some of my responsibilities include overseeing placement of new volunteers, scheduling of weekend services, and coordinating childcare needs for various Journey events and Wednesday nights during Equip classes.

  • Areas of town to hang out in: I love St. Louis! I love going to the zoo and the history museum in Forest Park. I live right by the Botanical Gardens, which is definitely a favorite. I also enjoy special festivals and events in the area, like the St. Louis Balloon Race and the Greek Festival.

So, Tell Me...

  • What is your vision for The Journey? My hope is that we would be a truly biblical community where people can be honest with their lives, but that brokenness would lead to healing and freedom through the power of the gospel.
  • Where did you grow up and what did you do as a kid? I grew up on the outskirts of Topeka, Kansas in a middle-class neighborhood in the same house since I was three years old. As a kid I enjoyed riding my bike, swimming at the neighborhood pool, Girl Scouts, babysitting, visits at my grandparents, and slumber parties.
  • What is your most memorable travel experience? I've only been to the Grand Canyon once, which was amazing just by itself. But I also got the opportunity to take a helicopter ride through the canyon, which was breathtaking!
